Skin Care Tips For Your 30's

When you've reached your 30's, chances are good you've tried your fair share of products in hopes of having perfect skin. Maybe some of them worked for you, of course, some didn't. Then again, maybe you're only now just beginning to think about what the future holds in regards to your skin and you're trying to do all you can now to repair the lack of effort in your past.

No matter the reason, today is as good as any day to start taking great care of your skin. And great care starts by knowing what skin type you fall in. Skin types vary by person, and can even vary depending on the seasons or even hormonal change. Once you see what skin type you are today, don't assume it will forever be your skin type. By giving your skin proper attention, you'll be able to see if you're starting to notice your skin getting drier or oilier as time goes on.
What Skin Type Are You?

See the common characteristics of each skin type to see where you fit.

  • Characteristics of Normal Skin
  • Characteristics of Combination Skin
  • Characteristics of Oily Skin
Daily Skin Care Basics

Now that you know your skin type, it's time to talk about what yous should be doing each day to properly take care of your skin. Create a skin care regime and make sure you do each step twice a day. I recommend a cleanser, toner and moisturizer. If you have oily or combination skin, stick with a gel based or foaming cleanser. Those of you with normal or dry skin will do best with a cream based cleanser. Toners are optional, but my personal results tell me that it works best for me. You can decide how you feel about toners and go from there.

Anti-Aging?

Once you hit your mid 30's and up, you may start noticing early signs of aging, such as laugh lines or possibly slight wrinkles around your lips and down your forehead. While it's too soon to freak out, it's not too soon to start taking care of your skin and step slowly into the anti-aging products on the market. (slowly)

Unprotected Sun Exposure Will Cause Wrinkles

It's true! Safe sun exposure is your #1 way to fend off time as long as possible. 90% of premature aging is caused by UV rays. Don't take chances any longer; use sunscreen daily. It's important to reapply as needed throughout the day, and don't forget to apply it to your hands, as they are the real age teller.

If puffy eyes, dark circles or minor laugh lines are a problem, an eye cream may be the answer, but it's not a necessity if you aren't having major concerns. If you do use an eye cream, make sure to use sunscreen carefully. Most eye creams do not have SPF, so if you don't add SPF, you're eyes will be exposed making premature aging of your eyes a real possibility. The 30's are a prime time for motherhood and fatherhood, so if you're up all night with the baby, chances are good you do have a dark circle under the eye problem. Buying special products can help, but so can at-home treatment.

Final Thoughts

I urge you to remain level-headed when it comes to searching for the cure to aging. While it may sound tempting to jump on the Botox Train or to buy the most expensive anti-aging cream on the market, try not to buy into that just yet. Sure, there may be some areas that you are noticing changing, but if you take proper care of your skin, include anti-oxidants in your regime and play it safe in the sun, you're doing what you should be doing. Your Dermatologist can always be of help with a personal evaluation of your skin and can help you with solutions made only available by a dermatologist. You'll have plenty of time to worry about aging when you're actually aging.
